Pathways Through the Orchard
The Torah portion of Toldot begins by discussing Yitzhak praying for his wife to be able to bare children. Based on the text, we explore the idea that God was also praying. This concept is actually found in the Talmud and arouses deep questions and ideas. We further discuss Yitzchak’s attachment to his son Esav, who is described as a man of the field. Yitzchak also has many connections to various fields in the text and we discuss the symbolism and significance of fields in Torah and in science.
Fruits of the Orchard
This class was dedicated to learning about Yitzchak, Issac, inasmuch as this is the main Torah portion where he appears. We focused on his connection to the Land of Israel and to his relationship to prayer and meditation.
